When You Are Ready to Apply

To apply for certification, you will need an Application Packet.

Application Packet ($55): includes

  • Preliminary Application Fee;
  • The BCG Application Guide, which details submission requirements for each certification category;
  • A one-year subscription to OnBoard, BCG's educational newsletter; and
  • a Preliminary Application Form.
It is also recommended that you purchase the BCG Genealogical Standards Manual. This book delineates the standards that the judges will use to evaluate your application.

After you receive your Application Package, and when you think you are ready to begin the application process, complete the Preliminary Application Form and mail it to the Executive Director. Receipt of your Preliminary Application Form triggers a one-year time period for filing a completed application and starts your subscription to OnBoard. Test documents related to the interests you indicated on the form are mailed once the Preliminary Application form is received.
